SPIN: Spin is a
structured exercise class performed on stationary exercise bikes.
You'll be led by your instructor through a virtual ride on flats,
hills and sprints.
Depending on the intensity of your work-out, researchers from
Charles Darwin University, in collaboration with Exercise Research
Australia, revealed that a spin class can burn a whopping 3350
kilojoules (800 calories) in a 40-minute ride!
A spin
class burns up a lot of energy by getting the heart rate up quite
high. It can be quite a high intensity, interval cardio workout
which is much more effective than a steady state cardio
session.
Spin is
suitable for just about anyone of any age, shape or fitness level.
And you don’t need to be too co-ordinated! You can take things at
your own pace and you won’t feel obliged to keep up with the rest
of the class. Because you have your own resistance dial, you
control the intensity of your work-out and you can exercise at the
level which you feel comfortable with. It’s a really motivating
class and appeals to a wide range of people, from beginners to
elite athletes
